AgMpower launched, Internet based system helps producers with farm management

A new Internet based farm management system is being offered to prairie grain producers. Developed by Leo Kosokowsky, an Agricultural Consultant based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the unique system is called AgMpower.

Participating producers have a password to access their account at www.AgMpower.ca. On the site, producers can adjust their seeding intentions, price projections and expense assumptions as conditions warrant. By accurately calculating the cost of production for each grain, producers can determine their breakeven prices and do a superior job of marketing.

But the real strength of AgMpower, and what makes it unique is benchmarking.

"Since the system is Internet based, producers are able to compare their costs, returns, margins and seeding intentions with other participating producers," explains Leo Kosokowsky. "Even the best managers can improve their operations by benchmarking."

Confidentiality is maintained, but the aggregate information is made available to producers who in turn make their information available to the system.

Producers are able to determine if their overhead costs per acre are lower or higher than average. They are also able to watch as overall seeding intentions and expected revenues are adjusted through the year. This provides valuable insights into the marketplace.

"Producers can also choose to give trusted farm advisors access to their account," says Kosokowsky. "A grain broker could have access to a producer's grain inventory information, while the producer's accountant could have all the information needed to complete CAIS application forms."

By combining planning and recording software with the power of benchmarking through an Internet based system, AgMpower gives producers more management power. They can refer back to past years and compare projections to what actually happened.

AgMpower is being marketed to producers online and through local suppliers and advisors. For a monthly cost, a farmer can plan, benchmark and view aggregate seeding intentions and crop margins. Interested people can access a demonstration of the system on the www.AgMpower.ca website.
